Rockledge was founded in 1887, making it the oldest incorporated municipality in Brevard County. Early industry was based on the citrus trade and accommodating tourists traveling to South Florida via the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Local businesses now focus heavily on technology and aerospace, in support of nearby Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral.
