Back to School: Why Brevard is the Best Place for Students

Posted: March 22nd, 2013

We don't know about you, but we're finding it hard to believe that schools are already back in session! After a summer full of beach days and trips to the Brevard Zoo, kids packed their backpacks and headed to class on Friday, August 10. According to Wesh 2 News, students across the county showed up in droves at their respective schools, even if the Friday start seemed a little odd.

For the second year in a row, Brevard County school district was given an A-rating, with no schools ranking below a D; according to Florida Today, the county as a whole has not received less than a B for nearly a decade. Here's why students are thriving in our area:

  • There are numerous real-life opportunities for science and engineering experience. Between the space program and conservation and wildlife initiatives around the county, students have the opportunity to see the principles they study in action. Many schools host field trips to Cape Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center, and St. John's River, to name just a few.
  • Schools in Brevard give students plenty of extracurricular activities. While work in the classroom is fundamental to a child's education, extracurriculars are where they have the opportunity to discover their interests and passions. Schools around the county have won awards for their extracurricular groups; for example, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School won second place worldwide in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
  • There are opportunities to enjoy educational activities in off-time. Once homework is done and the weekend has arrived, you want your kids to enjoy themselves while still engaging in wholesome activities. Taking them to the beach, to the Brevard Zoo, or to the Space Center are just a few of the ways to help them keep learning outside the classroom.

Whether you've lived in Brevard County for years or you're considering a move to the area, we think you'll agree that Brevard is the perfect place for a student to thrive.
