Time and again, Viera has made the list of top places in the country to live, work, and retire. Earlier this year, U.S. News and World Report published its annual “Best Places to Live” ranking, with Viera ranking 18th out of 150 locations. Based on the city’s job market, home values, quality of life, desirability, and migration, the annual report shows that Viera continues to attract new residents for good reasons. Believe it or not, the vision for this master-planned community started forming in the 1940s, when the Duda family purchased 43,000 acres in Brevard County. Viera East, Established in the Late 1980s
The first neighborhoods and major facilities were established in Viera after 1989, when the master plan for Viera was announced. Guided by innovation and smart planning techniques, the first construction in the area included the Brevard County Educational Services Facility, the Brevard Zoo, and some neighborhoods. Since then, Viera East has grown to become an established, desirable community offering the best of Central Florida.
Viera East includes 37 communities, not including apartment complexes, developed from the late 1980s through the early 2000s. Though Viera East isn’t continuing its expansion, it offers visitors and residents incredible options in contemporary amenities and entertainment. Viera West, Established in the 1990s and Still Growing
Viera West rests on the west side of I-95, with Stadium Parkway running through the center. This side of Viera continues to expand rapidly, with several parcels of land in the southern portion of the area set aside for future residential development. Currently, Viera West contains 38+ communities, not including apartment homes.
With room to grow, Viera West continues to attract new and exciting businesses to the area, including a Costco wholesale warehouse slated to open on November 19, 2021. Viera West is also the location of the well-known The Avenue Viera shopping center which is the site of several local-favorite shops, restaurants, and bars.
Like Viera East, this side of Viera has its own golf course: the Duran Golf Club, which was voted one of the top 50 practice courses in the U.S. Sports fans can also enjoy baseball games at the Space Coast Complex.
Subtle Differences, Many Similarities
Viera East is an established community with a number of well-known locations to visit, while Viera West still has enough room and time to expand in new and breathtaking ways. But while the two halves of Viera differ in subtle ways, they have a number of similarities. Both prominently feature world-class dining, shopping, and entertainment. Both have top-rated schools and public facilities. Both are great places to live.
